Copenhagen

Climate Characteristics of Copenhagen

General Overview

Copenhagen features a temperate oceanic climate heavily influenced by the sea. The weather is characterized by cool, pleasant summers and cold but rarely prolonged freezing winters, thanks to the Gulf Stream. The most notable trait is instability—rain can fall any day of the year, and skies are frequently overcast.

Summer Season (June to August)

Summer is the most popular time to visit. Days are very long (sunset after 10 PM in June), and temperatures are wonderfully comfortable, around 20°C to 23°C (68-73°F). This is a season of festivals, harbor swimming, and outdoor living, though an umbrella should always be kept handy.

Winter Season (December to February)

Winter is characterized by very short days (dark by 3:30 PM) and grey, humid weather. Temperatures hover around 0°C to 4°C (32-39°F). Snow falls annually but rarely accumulates heavily within the city. This is the perfect time to experience Danish "Hygge" in cozy cafes.

Wind and Precipitation

Wind is a significant factor in Copenhagen, especially near the waterfront, and can make temperatures feel much colder than they are. Rainfall is typically not very heavy but is distributed throughout the entire year.
