Girardot

Climate Characteristics of Girardot

General Overview

Girardot is situated on the banks of the Magdalena River at a relatively low altitude of about 290 meters (950 feet). Due to its location in the river valley and low elevation, the climate is tropical, hot, and dry. Girardot is known as one of the hottest places in the Cundinamarca department, serving as a total contrast to the chilly climate of nearby Bogotá.

Temperatures and Daily Variations

Daytime temperatures consistently average between 32°C and 35°C (90-95°F), but on particularly hot days, they can climb above 38°C (100°F). Nighttime temperatures remain very warm, ranging from 23°C to 25°C (73-77°F). The sun is very strong year-round, and the air feels hot and heavy, making local pools the center of life in the city.

Rainy Seasons (March-May and October-November)

Even during the rainy seasons, Girardot remains very hot. Rain usually appears as intense but short thunderstorms, typically in the evening or at night. The rain brings temporary relief from the heat but increases humidity levels the following day.

Dry Seasons (December-February and June-August)

These are the sunniest and hottest periods of the year. The skies are almost completely clear, and this is the peak tourism season. During these months, there is very little rainfall, and the surrounding landscape turns more yellow and dry. It is the perfect time for water activities and relaxation.
