Lohamei HaGeta'ot
Climate Characteristics of Lohamei HaGeta'ot
General Overview
Lohamei HaGeta'ot enjoys a northern coastal Mediterranean climate. Its location in the Galilean coastal plain, only about 2 kilometers from the shoreline, provides it with a moderating maritime influence throughout the year, resulting in more comfortable temperatures than inland and high humidity during the summer.
Summer Season and Warm Months
Summer in the kibbutz is hot and humid, but relatively comfortable compared to the central coastal plain due to its northern location and breezes from the sea and the slopes of the Western Galilee. Daytime temperatures range from 29°C to 31°C (84-88°F). Humidity is very high, especially in the morning and evening, but the sea breeze provides relief during the afternoon.
Winter Season and Precipitation
Winter in Lohamei HaGeta'ot is mild and very rainy. The area is considered one of the rainiest in the Israeli coastal plain, with an annual average of about 600 to 650 mm of rain. Daytime temperatures hover around 18°C (64°F), and at night they rarely drop below 9°C (48°F). Powerful winter systems from the sea bring heavy rain and brisk westerly winds.
Transition Seasons and Special Phenomena
Transition seasons are short and characterized by excellent visibility and rapid weather changes. Spring brings fresh green blooms to the kibbutz fields and nearby avocado and banana plantations. In autumn, a gradual decrease in humidity and a change in sky color can be felt as the first winter systems approach.
Weather in Lohamei HaGeta'ot by Month
January
January is the coldest and rainiest month. Daytime temperatures range around 17°C (63°F), and at night they drop to 9°C (48°F) on average. This is the peak of the rainy season in the northern coastal plain, with many rainy days and winter systems often accompanied by thunderstorms over the nearby sea.
February
Winter continues in full force with low temperatures and frequent precipitation. February is similar to January in terms of cold, and the landscape around the kibbutz is water-saturated and very green. Despite the rain, pleasant sunny spells can be felt between storms toward the end of the month.
March
March is a transition month where temperatures begin to rise to about 19°C (66°F) during the day. Skies begin to clear for longer periods, though strong rain events can still occur. This is a beautiful month when the blooms in the Western Galilee fields are at their peak.
April
Especially pleasant spring weather visits the kibbutz. Temperatures climb to 22°C (72°F) during the day, and humidity is not yet oppressive. Visibility is excellent, with Rosh HaNikra to the north and Mount Carmel to the south clearly visible. Occasional short heatwaves may occur.

July
A very hot and humid month. The average daytime temperature is 30°C (86°F), and nights are warm at about 22°C (72°F). High humidity creates heavy heat stress, but the northern location and westerly winds lessen the oppressive feeling compared to central Israel.
August
The most challenging month in terms of humidity and heat. Temperatures range around 31°C (88°F) during the day, and humidity is at its peak. Nights are sticky and warm, and the sea is at its maximum temperature, which reduces its cooling effect at night.
September
The start of autumn brings a gradual relief. Daytime temperatures remain high (about 30°C/86°F), but toward the end of the month, a slight drop in nighttime temperatures is felt. Humidity is still very high, but the sky occasionally fills with low morning clouds.
October
Significant relief in temperatures to an average of 27°C (81°F) during the day. Nights become much more pleasant (about 18°C/64°F), and the first rains ("Yoreh") may occur. The air becomes clearer, and the heavy summer humidity breaks.
