Palanga

Climate Characteristics of Palanga

General Overview

Palanga enjoys a maritime-temperate climate, directly influenced by the Baltic Sea. Unlike the continental cities in eastern Lithuania, the weather here is milder throughout the year—winters are less freezing and summers are fresh and pleasant. The city is known for its long white-sand beach surrounded by pine forests and sand dunes, which create a natural windbreak and contribute to high air quality.

Temperatures and Daily Variations

In summer, daytime temperatures average between 20°C and 23°C (68-73°F). The sea breeze prevents heavy heat, making Palanga a popular refuge during heatwaves. In winter, the average daytime temperature is around 1°C (34°F), with nights hovering around -4°C (25°F).

Precipitation Seasons (September-November)

Autumn is the wettest season. Due to high sea humidity, Palanga often experiences slanted rains accompanied by strong winds. In winter, snow falls but tends to melt relatively quickly due to the salty air and temperatures that occasionally stay above freezing.

Dry and Comfortable Seasons (May-June)

These months are the sunniest and driest. The skies are clear, and the cold sea prevents heavy cloud formation. It is the best time for walking in Palanga's Botanical Park and cycling along the coastline before the summer crowds arrive.
