Climate Characteristics of Alonei Abba

General Overview

Alonei Abba enjoys a Mediterranean climate characteristic of the Alonei Abba-Shefa-'Amr hills and the fringes of the Jezreel Valley. Its geographical location, combining low hills with relative proximity to the valley, creates a blend of moderating maritime influence from the Mediterranean Sea along with more continental features of the interior.

Summer Season and Warm Months

Summer in Alonei Abba is hot and mostly dry. Daytime temperatures range from 31°C to 33°C (88-91°F), and heat stress is clearly felt during the afternoon. However, thanks to the hilly terrain and abundant vegetation, nights are generally more pleasant than in the Jezreel Valley itself, with a light sea breeze typically arriving in the evening.

Winter Season and Precipitation

The winter in the area is mild and rainy. Alonei Abba receives healthy precipitation, averaging about 550 to 600 mm annually. Winter temperatures are low but rarely reach freezing, with the average temperature on a typical winter day ranging between 17°C and 19°C (63-66°F). Continuous rainy days are common during the peak of the season.

Transition Seasons and Special Phenomena

Transition seasons in Alonei Abba are among the most beautiful in the country, as the hills surrounding the settlement are covered in spectacular blooms. Spring is characterized by gradual warming but may include sudden "Sharav" (heatwave) events. Autumn brings a drop in humidity and very clear air that highlights the forest landscape surrounding the colony.

January

January is the coldest and rainiest month of the year. Average daytime temperatures range around 17°C, and at night they drop to an average of 9°C. This is the peak of the rainy season, characterized by frequent rainy days and a lush, water-saturated landscape in the surrounding oak hills.

February

Winter continues in full force with low temperatures and high precipitation. February is similar to January in terms of cold, and the landscape turns spectacularly green and blooming (primarily anemones and cyclamens). Rains are still frequent, but longer breaks can be felt toward the end of the month.

March

March marks the transition from winter to spring. Daytime temperatures rise to an average of 20°C, and days become brighter and more pleasant. Rains still occur but decrease in frequency, and the vegetation is at its peak splendor.

April

Especially pleasant spring weather. Temperatures climb to 24°C during the day, and nights are very pleasant (about 12°C). Humidity is low, and visibility is excellent. This is an ideal month for hiking in Alonei Abba forest and the nearby trails.

May

Temperatures rise to about 27°C, and days become warm and sunny. Rain almost completely disappears. The atmosphere becomes summer-like, but the relative dryness maintains a very comfortable feeling in the shade and during the cool evenings.

June

June opens the official summer season. Daytime temperatures range around 29°C-30°C, and humidity begins to rise gradually. Skies are completely clear with no chance of precipitation. Heat stress is felt primarily during the afternoon hours.

July

A very hot and humid month. The average daytime temperature is 31°C, and nights are warm at about 22°C. Heat stress is clearly felt, but the evening breeze in the hills provides some relief compared to the nearby valley area.

August

The hottest and most humid month of the year. Temperatures range around 32°C during the day, and at night they remain high. Heat stress is at its peak with no relief from precipitation. This is the month when desert dryness is sometimes felt more due to warm easterly winds.

September

The start of autumn brings a gradual relief from the heat. Daytime temperatures drop to 31°C, and nights become slightly more pleasant. Humidity remains high, but a decreasing trend is felt toward the end of the month.

October

Significant relief in temperatures to an average of 28°C during the day. Nights become cool and pleasant (about 18°C), and the first rains ("Yoreh") may occur toward the end of the month. The air becomes clearer and cleaner.

November

Temperatures drop to 24°C during the day, and the atmosphere becomes wintry. Rainfall increases significantly, and winds strengthen. This is the transition month when long clothes are worn again, and rain systems become more consistent.

December

Winter officially returns to Alonei Abba. Temperatures drop to 18°C during the day and 11°C at night. Rainy days become frequent, and the sky is cloudy most of the time. The area fills with water, and the hills begin to turn bright green again.
