Climate Characteristics of Anykščiai

General Overview

Anykščiai is considered one of the most beautiful and greenest places in Lithuania. Its climate is temperate-continental, heavily influenced by the vast forests surrounding the town and the Šventoji River. The abundant trees act as temperature regulators—keeping it fresh in summer and protecting it from strong winds in winter.

Temperatures and Daily Variations

In summer, daytime temperatures average between 22°C and 24°C (72-75°F). In winter, average daytime temperatures are around -3°C (27°F), dropping to -10°C (14°F) or lower at night. Due to its northeastern position, winter here tends to be stable and snowier than on the coast.

Precipitation Seasons (June-August)

Summer is the wettest season. Rain typically appears as short afternoon thunderstorms, giving the forest a fresh scent. In winter, snow is very common, making the area spectacular for nature walks and skiing on the nearby Kalita hill.
