Climate Characteristics of Bauska

General Overview

Bauska is situated in southern Latvia, in the heart of the fertile Zemgale plain, close to the Lithuanian border. Its climate is considered one of the warmest and most favorable in Latvia. Located far from the cooling Baltic Sea winds and within a flat agricultural region, summer temperatures here tend to rise higher than in Riga. The warmest month. 25°C (77°F) during the day and 14°C (57°F) at night. Occasionally, temperatures climb to 30°C (86°F). Great for river activities, though powerful thunderstorms can break out to clear the heat and humidity.

August

Continuation of a warm, stable summer. 24°C (75°F) during the day. Nights become cooler and pleasant for sleeping (13°C/55°F). Rainfall remains relatively high, but the sun is still dominant for most of the day.

September

Golden autumn. 17°C (63°F) during the day. The air becomes crisp and clear. The flat fields surrounding the city turn gold with the harvest, and foliage begins to appear on the riverbank trees. A very dry and comfortable month.

October

Gradual cooling to 10°C (50°F). Days shorten and humidity rises. Fall foliage is at its peak, making the area around Bauska Castle incredibly colorful. Rainy days become more frequent and winds on the plain strengthen.

November

A grey and chilly month. 4°C (39°F) during the day. There is almost no sunshine, and the sky is usually covered in heavy clouds. Possible first snow toward the end of the month; the air feels wet and cold due to river humidity.
