Climate Characteristics of Bray

General Overview

Bray features a maritime temperate climate. Due to its location on the east coast, the city is considered one of the driest and most pleasant regions in Ireland. The mountains surrounding the area to the west provide some protection from powerful Atlantic storms, while the Irish Sea to the east moderates temperatures year-round.

Summer Season and Warm Months

Summer in Bray is pleasant and very comfortable for outdoor activities. Average daytime temperatures range between 18°C and 20°C (64-68°F). This is peak season on the city's famous promenade, and long daylight hours allow for hiking until late. Despite the sunshine, light rain showers are a common phenomenon even during this season.

Winter Season and Precipitation

Winter in Bray is cool, grey, and tends to be wet. Daytime temperatures average around 8°C (46°F), while nighttime lows drop to 3°C (37°F) on average. Due to the proximity to the sea, snow is quite a rare event on the coast, though nearby mountain peaks can sometimes be seen covered in white. Rain falls frequently but usually with low intensity.

The weather remains similar to January with a daytime average of about 8°C. Sea winds can be strong, but there is a gradual increase in sunshine hours.

March

The beginning of spring. Days lengthen and the temperature rises to about 10°C. This is relatively one of the drier months of the year on the east coast.

April

Temperatures climb to approximately 12°C during the day. A volatile month where you can experience sun and light rain interchangeably within short periods.

May

A very pleasant month with spectacular blooms and a daytime average of 15°C. The weather becomes ideal for hiking on cliff paths.

June

Summer officially begins with a daytime average of about 18°C. Daylight hours are at their peak and evenings are very pleasant and bright.

July

One of the warmest months of the year, averaging about 20°C during the day. The weather is very comfortable for tours and the beach, but rain is still possible.

August

Very similar to July with daytime temperatures around 20°C. It is a relatively humid month, and evenings begin to cool slightly toward its end.

Autumn begins with an average daytime temperature of 17°C. The air is very pleasant and foliage begins to show on the hills.

A cooler and wetter month with about 14°C during the day. Sea winds strengthen and the atmosphere becomes more autumnal and stormy.
