Haapsalu is surrounded by water on three sides, granting it a distinct maritime climate similar to that of the islands. The city sits on very shallow bays that warm up faster than anywhere else along the Estonian Baltic coast. Precipitation Seasons (August-December)

Autumn is the rainiest season. The combination of shallow bays and high humidity contributes to thick morning fogs, giving the castle and the promenade a mysterious appearance. In winter, snow falls, and the bays freeze frequently, allowing for unique "ice roads" for vehicles connecting the city to nearby islands.

Dry and Comfortable Seasons (May-July)

April

Month of bloom and peace. 15°C (59°F) daytime. Blue skies and very clear air. This is the start of the hiking season, with parks around the castle filling with fresh green and low humidity.

October

Windy and wet month. 10°C (50°F) daytime. Days shorten significantly and humidity rises. Autumn storms from the Baltic are common, and the ancient castle looks dramatic under grey skies.

Dark, grey, and chilly. 4°C (39°F) daytime. Almost no sunshine hours. Prolonged rains and heavy fogs are the central features. Temperatures usually remain above freezing due to the bay's influence.
