Climate Characteristics of Helsingør

General Overview

Helsingør features a temperate oceanic climate. Located at the narrowest point of the Øresund Strait, its weather is directly influenced by the sea. The strait creates brisk winds year-round, keeping the air clean and fresh but also sharpening the chill.

Summer Season (June to August)

Summer in Helsingør is pleasant and relatively cool, with daytime temperatures between 19°C and 22°C (66-72°F). This is the best time for visiting the castle and walking along the promenade overlooking Sweden. The sea breeze moderates temperatures, ensuring a pleasant atmosphere even on warmer days. Days are very long, with daylight lasting until late evening.

Winter Season (December to February)

Winter in Helsingør is characterized by cold, humidity, and strong winds from the strait. Daytime temperatures range from 2°C to 4°C (36-39°F). While the sea rarely freezes, the combination of wind and humidity creates a significant wind chill. Snow may fall, giving Kronborg Castle a particularly dramatic and impressive appearance.
