Climate Characteristics of León

General Overview

León enjoys a semi-arid subtropical climate. Situated at an elevation of approximately 1,815 meters (5,955 feet), it experiences relatively moderate temperatures throughout the year. The weather is characterized by a long dry season (winter and spring) and a shorter rainy season (summer).

Summer and Rainy Season (June to September)

Summer in León coincides with the rainy season. Daytime temperatures are pleasant, ranging from 26°C to 28°C (79-82°F). Rain typically occurs in the late afternoon or evening as intense but brief showers, which help cool the air. Humidity rises during this period but is not as oppressive as in coastal regions.

Winter and Dry Season (November to February)

Winter is the driest season. Days are sunny and pleasant (around 23°C/73°F), but due to the high altitude and clear skies, nighttime temperatures drop significantly and can reach 7°C (45°F) or lower. This is an excellent time to visit for those preferring stable, clear weather.

Spring Season (March to May)

The spring months are the hottest in León. Before the arrival of the rains, daytime temperatures can climb above 30°C (86°F), and the air is very dry. This is a time of blooming, but also a period when the sun is particularly strong.

January

The coldest month at night. Clear and pleasant days (23°C/73°F) but cold nights (7°C/45°F). Almost no rain.

February

Dry and sunny. Daytime temperatures rise slightly to 25°C (77°F). Nights remain very cool.

March

Start of the hot season. Very dry days with a daytime average of 28°C (82°F). Skies are cloudless and blue.

April

Very hot and dry. Daytime temperatures reach 30°C (86°F). This is the peak of the dry season in León.

May

The hottest month. Average of 31°C (88°F) daytime. First rain showers may appear toward the end of the month.

June

Start of the rainy season. Temperatures drop slightly to 29°C (84°F). Rains become regular in the evenings.

July

Rainy and pleasant. Daytime temperatures around 27°C (81°F). This is one of the wettest months of the year.

August

Similar to July. Humid weather with frequent afternoon showers and comfortable daytime temperatures of 27°C (81°F).

September

Still very rainy. Daytime temperatures around 26°C (79°F). The air is fresh and the surrounding vegetation is very green.

October

Transition to the dry season. Rainfall decreases and daytime temperatures are pleasant (26°C/79°F). Nights start to cool down.

November

Dry and sunny. Very pleasant days (24°C/75°F) and nights become cool (9°C/48°F). Visibility is excellent.

December

Clear and dry. Classic touring weather during the day (23°C/73°F) but warm clothing is needed for the night (8°C/46°F).
