Climate Characteristics of Mishmar HaEmek
General Overview
Mishmar HaEmek enjoys a Mediterranean climate that combines features of a mountainous region (Menashe Heights) and a valley (Jezreel Valley). The kibbutz's location on the slope provides a climatic advantage, as it benefits from mountain breezes in the evening and better air drainage than the valley floor, slightly moderating extreme heat and cold.
Summer Season and Warm Months
Summer in Mishmar HaEmek is mostly hot and dry during the day, with temperatures ranging from 31°C to 33°C (88-91°F). Heat stress is felt in the afternoon, but due to the proximity to the Menashe forests and the relative elevation above the valley, evenings and nights are significantly more pleasant, accompanied by westerly winds that lower the temperature and humidity.
Winter Season and Precipitation
Winter in the area is rainy and cool. Mishmar HaEmek is in a region with healthy precipitation, averaging about 600 mm annually. Rains mostly arrive in powerful winter systems from the Mediterranean Sea. Winter temperatures are comfortable during the day (about 18°C/64°F), but on clear nights, cold air flows from the hills toward the valley, and the temperature in the kibbutz drops to values around 8°C (46°F).
Transition Seasons and Special Phenomena
Transition seasons in the kibbutz are characterized by spectacular blooms in the surrounding forests and fields. In spring, "Sharav" (heatwave) events are common, with hot and dry easterly winds blowing from the valley toward the hills. In autumn, a rapid decrease in humidity and a marked improvement in visibility toward the Nazareth hills and Mount Tabor can be felt, especially after the first rains.
