Climate Characteristics of Nahal Oz

General Overview

Nahal Oz enjoys a climate that combines Mediterranean features with north-desert influences. Its geographical location, about ten kilometers from the coastline at a low elevation, creates weather that is relatively hot and dry during daytime, with a moderating influence from the sea breeze that arrives in the afternoons and evenings.

Daytime humidity is lower than in cities directly on the shoreline, slightly easing the sensation of heat stress. In the evenings, a drop in temperature and more pleasant air penetrating from the sea are typically felt.

March

March marks the transition from winter to spring. Daytime temperatures rise to an average of 20°C, and days become brighter. Rains still occur but their frequency decreases, and the desert air begins to lower the humidity levels.

April

Especially pleasant spring weather visits the area. Temperatures climb to 24°C during the day, and nights are pleasant (about 12°C). Humidity is low and visibility is excellent. Occasional short heatwaves may occur, bringing light haze from the Negev.

May

Temperatures rise to about 27°C and days become very warm and sunny. Rain almost completely disappears from the forecast. The atmosphere becomes summer-like, but relative dryness maintains a very comfortable feeling in the shade and during cool evenings.

August

The hottest month of the year in Nahal Oz. Temperatures range around 32°C during the day, and at night they remain high. Heat stress is at its peak due to the combination of strong radiation and rising humidity levels. This is the most climatically challenging month in the region.

September

The start of autumn brings a gradual relief from daytime heat. Temperatures drop to 31°C, and nights become slightly more pleasant. Humidity is still relatively high, but toward the end of the month, an improvement in the "heavy" feeling is felt.

October

Significant relief in temperatures to an average of 28°C during the day. Nights become cool and pleasant (about 17°C), and the first rains ("Yoreh") may occur. The air becomes clearer and cleaner, and visibility toward the Gaza Strip and the sea is at its best.

November

Temperatures drop to 23°C during the day, and the atmosphere becomes wintry. Rainfall increases significantly and winds strengthen. This is the transition month when the landscape starts shifting from dry and yellow to fresh green.
