Climate Characteristics of Shefayim
General Overview
Shefayim enjoys a distinct coastal Mediterranean climate. Its location on a cliff overlooking the waterline grants it direct maritime influence, characterized by high humidity in summer and stormy, rainy weather in winter. The proximity to the sea moderates temperatures, resulting in smaller day-to-night temperature differences than in inland settlements.
Summer Season and Warm Months
Summer in Shefayim is hot and very humid. Daytime temperatures range from 30°C to 31°C (86-88°F), but high humidity levels make the heat stress heavy. The kibbutz's main advantage is the strong sea breeze blowing in the afternoons and evenings, which cools the air and provides vital relief from the sticky heat.
Winter Season and Precipitation
The winter in Shefayim is mild in terms of cold but stormy and rainy. The sea maintains daytime temperatures around 18°C (64°F) and prevents frost at night. However, due to its cliff-top location, the kibbutz is exposed to strong westerly storms and fierce winds from the sea. Average annual precipitation is approximately 560 mm.
Transition Seasons and Special Phenomena
Transition seasons are short and volatile. Spring features clear days with excellent visibility along the coastline, while autumn brings developed morning cloudiness over the sea and a refreshing salty scent. During these periods, "Sharav" (heatwave) events may occur where easterly winds temporarily push humidity away from the coast.

January is the rainiest and stormiest month. Daytime temperatures range around 17°C, and at night they drop to 10°C on average. Winds from the sea are very strong, and the sea is often rough or stormy. Numerous winter systems bring heavy rain to the area.
February
Winter continues in full force with low temperatures and wavy seas. February is similar to January, but the start of coastal blooming can often be seen on the nearby cliffs. Rains are still frequent, and air humidity is very high.
