Climate Characteristics of Manara
General Overview
Manara enjoys a distinct mountainous climate, similar in characteristics to the Jerusalem hills and the lower Mount Hermon. Due to its location on the edge of the cliff overlooking the Hula Valley, the kibbutz is exposed to strong winds and sudden weather changes. The climate is characterized by cool, pleasant summers and cold, stormy, and occasionally snowy winters.
Summer Season and Warm Months
Summer in Manara is one of the most comfortable in Israel. While the Hula Valley below experiences scorching temperatures, daytime temperatures in Manara rarely cross 28°C (82°F) and humidity is very low. Nights are particularly cool with a refreshing mountain breeze, requiring long sleeves even at the peak of July and August.
Winter Season and Precipitation
Winter in Manara is among the stormiest in the country. The kibbutz is exposed to very strong westerly winds that bring significant rainfall (averaging about 800 mm annually). Due to its high altitude, snow falls almost every winter and sometimes accumulates significantly. A very common winter phenomenon is heavy fog covering the kibbutz due to low cloud cover.
Transition Seasons and Special Phenomena
Transition seasons feature extraordinary visibility toward the Hula Valley, the Golan Heights, and Mount Hermon. Spring brings spectacular mountain blooms, while autumn is characterized by a sharp drop in evening temperatures and the start of the impressive bird migration clearly visible from the cliff.
