Climate Characteristics of Manara

General Overview

Manara enjoys a distinct mountainous climate, similar in characteristics to the Jerusalem hills and the lower Mount Hermon. Due to its location on the edge of the cliff overlooking the Hula Valley, the kibbutz is exposed to strong winds and sudden weather changes. The climate is characterized by cool, pleasant summers and cold, stormy, and occasionally snowy winters.

Summer Season and Warm Months

Summer in Manara is one of the most comfortable in Israel. While the Hula Valley below experiences scorching temperatures, daytime temperatures in Manara rarely cross 28°C (82°F) and humidity is very low. Nights are particularly cool with a refreshing mountain breeze, requiring long sleeves even at the peak of July and August.

Winter Season and Precipitation

Winter in Manara is among the stormiest in the country. The kibbutz is exposed to very strong westerly winds that bring significant rainfall (averaging about 800 mm annually). Due to its high altitude, snow falls almost every winter and sometimes accumulates significantly. A very common winter phenomenon is heavy fog covering the kibbutz due to low cloud cover.

Transition Seasons and Special Phenomena

Transition seasons feature extraordinary visibility toward the Hula Valley, the Golan Heights, and Mount Hermon. Spring brings spectacular mountain blooms, while autumn is characterized by a sharp drop in evening temperatures and the start of the impressive bird migration clearly visible from the cliff.

Weather in Manara by Month

January

January is the coldest month of the year. Daytime temperatures range around 10°C (50°F), and at night they drop to an average of 4°C (39°F). This is the peak of the rain and snow season. The kibbutz is often covered in heavy fog and exposed to very stormy winds.

February

Winter continues in full force with very low temperatures and high precipitation. February is similar to January in terms of cold, and the landscape around the kibbutz turns bright green. The chance of snow remains high during this month.

March

Spring begins to show its first signs with a gradual daytime temperature rise to about 15°C (59°F). Despite warming, nights remain very cold (about 7°C/45°F), and significant snow or rain events can still occur.

April

Especially pleasant spring weather. Temperatures climb to 20°C (68°F) during the day, and nights are cool and pleasant. Humidity is low, and visibility from the cliff toward Mount Hermon and the Golan Heights is at its best.

May

Temperatures rise to about 24°C (75°F) and days become warm and clear. Rain almost completely disappears. The atmosphere becomes summer-like, but the mountain dryness maintains a very comfortable feeling in the shade and during evenings.

June

June opens Manara's moderate summer season. Daytime temperatures range around 26°C (79°F), and humidity is very low. In the evenings, temperatures drop to 16°C (61°F) and a pleasant breeze blows, relieving the heat.

July

An ideal summer month. The daytime temperature is about 28°C (82°F), and at night it drops to 18°C (64°F). While the rest of the country suffers from heat and humidity, in Manara the air is dry, cool, and pleasant throughout most of the day.

August

The "hottest" month of the year, yet still much more comfortable than the national average. Temperatures peak at about 28°C-29°C (82-84°F) during the day. Nights remain cool and require long sleeves for those sitting outside.

September

The start of autumn brings a temperature drop to 26°C (79°F) during the day. Nights become cooler and humidity remains low. The sky occasionally fills with high clouds and visibility becomes excellent.

October

Significant relief in temperatures to an average of 23°C (73°F) during the day. Nights become cold (about 14°C/57°F) and first rains may occur. The air becomes very clear and the scent of autumn is strong in the mountain air.

December

Winter officially returns to Manara. Temperatures drop to 12°C (54°F) during the day and 6°C (43°F) at night. Rainy days are frequent, fogs return to cover the cliff, and the kibbutz enters the coldest and stormiest period of the year.
