Climate Characteristics of Navan

General Overview

Navan features a maritime temperate climate. Due to its inland location, it experiences slightly more extreme temperatures than coastal cities—warmer days in summer and cooler nights in winter. The city sits at the confluence of the River Boyne and the River Blackwater, contributing to high humidity and frequent mists.

Summer Season and Warm Months

Summer in Navan is pleasant and relatively warm compared to coastal areas. Average daytime temperatures range between 19°C and 21°C (66-70°F). This is an ideal time for visiting nearby archaeological sites, though brief rain showers and palpable humidity due to river proximity should be expected.

Winter Season and Precipitation

Winter in Navan is cool, grey, and tends to be very wet. Daytime temperatures average around 8°C (46°F), while nighttime lows drop to 2°C (36°F) on average. Due to the inland location, frost is more common here than in Dublin, and thick fogs often form over the river valley.
